The true cost of running a website
Today, I am making a "simple" website for my cousin's insurance agency. I started on WordPress and the learning my way through customizing with CSS, HTML, and JavaScript. Everything has worked fine for the past couple of months, until I downloaded the first plugin, GTranslate.
Everything broke down.
All of my customizations with CSS suddenly stopped working because WordPress decided that the plugin's CSS is more important. It deleted everything I worked on and offered me an "alternative" way to add my custom CSS. Turns out it only works on their editor, and not on the actual site!
WordPress decent options start at $8/month, for a barely working, ugly-looking site. On top of that, I'll need to spend hours customizing to avoid their upselling.
What is the true cost of owning my place here on the internet?
